Clogged or dirty dryer vents and ductwork can be a significant reason behind the poor performance. If heat, dryer lint, and dust accumulation grow uncontrollably, it can cause havoc fire damage. The USA reports a considerable number of fire hazards each year due to clothes dryer vents. Are you noticing that your dryer is performing a tad bit poorly? There are individual bits and bobs of problems that can lead to this situation. There is no single issue that our dryer repair Baltimore from The Baltimore Appliance Repair Shop cannot solve. In the following lines, you can learn simple DIY procedures to fix your dryer.

STEP ONE: Disconnecting the Dryer

Unplug the dryer. Turn the supply valve if you have a gas dryer.
Make sure to keep the dryer at least a foot away from the wall while working. You wouldn’t want the wall to hinder your pace!
Disconnect the dryer duct from the back of the dryer with a screwdriver.

STEP TWO: Vacuuming the Vent

Wear safety gloves and remove lint from the hole at the back of the dryer.
Use the hose attachment of your vacuum to clean the insides of the vent.
Remove the exterior vent cover.
Clean out the dryer vent from the outside with a vacuum.

STEP Three: Brushing the Vent

Use flexible brushes with extensions to thoroughly clean the vent’s interior walls.
Insert the brush into the duct and move it back and forth
Slightly rotate the brush while moving it back and forth.

STEP Four: Reconnecting the Dryer

Reattach ductwork and vent cover.
You can seal sections of ductwork with UL-listed metal foil duct tape. But this step is not mandatory.
Put the dryer back into its place.
Plug the connections in or turn the gas valve back on.
Test the dryer for 15 to 20 minutes on the fluff or air-dry setting.

A Few Tips

It is always good to be alert to the warning signs. Here are some tips you can follow to make sure to detect any early caution signs.
Tip 1: If you still feel your dryer is still not working correctly, get professional help.
Tip 2: As some of the flexible dryer hoses are made of plastic, they can get clogged and cause fires. It is best to replace them with ductwork that is in alignment with your local building codes.
Tip 3: You can use a leaf blower to remove dust, but it is less efficient.
Tip 4: Analyze which of the interior or exterior opening is higher and start working on the higher side. It will help loosen the lint.
Tip 5: Check for warning signs in the clothes dryer like a prolonged laundry drying time, the clothes dryer heating up, or a burning smell coming out of the laundry room.
